European countries, which supply a significant portion of wet wipes from Ukraine, shifted demand to Turkey due to the war in question. Ukraine, which has difficulties in production, asked for support from manufacturers in Turkey. It is thought that there will be an increase in the export of wet wipes in line with the demand in Europe.
Ukraine, one of the largest wet wipes suppliers in Europe, especially in Northern Europe, had to restrict its exports to the said regions due to the war it was in. Some Ukrainian producers requested support from the producers in Turkey in order to continue production. The European countries, which had difficulties in supply, directed their demands to Turkey. This is thought to be a factor in a significant increase in wet wipes exports.
Reminding that Ukraine is the wet wipes supplier of Northern Europe in wet wipes, Aksan Kozmetik Chairman of the Board Zafer Kutanoğlu said, “However, since Ukraine cannot export any products at the moment, European countries started to demand these products from us. This may affect our exports positively. But of course, we are not looking for an opportunity here, the healthiest thing for us is for these countries to sit down and solve this problem.”
Ukraine’s largest requested support from Turkey
Sapro General Manager Murat Gönül, who stated that Ukraine’s largest producer was unable to supply raw materials, requested support for production and said, “We think that our negotiations will be concluded in a short time.” Gönül, who stated that approximately 70% of Sapro’s exports are focused on Europe, said, “Since the countries we export to are generally the major European countries such as Germany, England and France, we can say that this situation did not increase our target.” Expressing that the continuation of the war in Ukraine supports the increase in exports of some needs, Gönül noted that they think this process will be continuous. Noting that they received requests from Ukraine and neighboring countries, Gönül said, “This will return us as a plus. “Whether the war continues or not, Turkey will be needed,” he said.
“We have made significant progress in the production of wet wipes”
Expressing that Turkey has many productions in the field of cosmetics and cleaning products and important studies have been carried out in this field, Cosmetic Manufacturers and Researchers Association (KÜAD) Chairman of the Board Levent Kahriman said, “The composition of the products exported after the pandemic has changed. Hygiene products were the most exported products, he said. Informing that soap, wet wipes and antibacterial products are among the leading products, Kahriman said, “Especially, Turkey has made significant progress in the production of wet wipes and has reached a very high level in terms of exports.”
